Join the DUE Justice Coalition and their allies in organized labor for an action on Thursday, April 4, to demand our elected officials pass a moral budget that supports all Connecticut residents and asks the wealthy to pair their fair share.

April 4th is significant because it is the day Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated in Memphis, Tennessee. Dr. King was in Memphis to support an AFSCME sanitation workers’ strike for recognition of their union, fair wages, and safe jobs. So this Thursday we will honor the memory and legacy of Dr. King and fight for a fair and moral budget in Hartford.

The day before Dr. King was killed, he addressed the striking sanitation workers:

“You are demanding that this city will respect the dignity of labor. So often we overlook the work and the significance of those who are not in professional jobs, of those who are not in the so-called big jobs. But let me say to you tonight that whenever you are engaged in work that serves humanity and is for the building of humanity, it has dignity and it has worth.”
