The Connecticut AFL-CIO, the umbrella federation of Connecticut unions, will hold the second day of its twelfth biennial political convention at the Hartford Hilton on Friday, June 22.

Unlike most years, this convention is split into three non-consecutive days. The first day was previously held on Friday, April 6; the next convention date will take place on Friday, June 22; and the final date will be a half day on Friday, August 31. The split convention dates are a creative approach to addressing a unique challenge in the upcoming election cycle designed to provide organized labor with the greatest flexibility to reach a decision that is in the best interests of working people.

The delegates to the June convention could potentially vote on endorsements for Governor, Lieutenant Governor, U.S. Representative in the 5th Congressional District, U.S. Senate, Attorney General, Treasurer, and many state senate and state house races.

Highlights of the agenda include (times are approximate):

10:00 AM        Convention opens
10:10 AM        Candidate for U.S. Senate Chris Murphy
10:30 AM        Interview of candidates for Lieutenant Governor
11:00 AM        Interview of candidates for U.S. Representative in 5th CD
1:00 PM          Interview of candidates for Treasurer
2:30 PM          Recognition of State Senator Ed Gomes
2:40 PM          Potential vote on endorsements

The press is invited to attend. Please pre-register if you plan to attend and stop by the registration desk for a press pass.
