Assistance for Federal Workers

The labor movement stands in solidarity with federal workers during the government shutdown and wants to support you through our community affiliate, the United Labor Agency (ULA).

Any federal workers in Connecticut that have been impacted by the shutdown should contact the ULA at 860-258-6640 for worker assistance.

ULA available services include:

  • Food Pantry: Access to the Worker’s Center Emergency Food Pantry at 22 Orange Street, Hartford, CT. Please call 860-727-9301 to arrange for food pickup.
  • Heating Assistance: Access to union Operation Fuel funding for electric/gas/oil bills. Call Emmett Burton at 860-727-9301 to complete an application.
  • Speak to a Counselor: Call any office (statewide) and speak to a ULA counselor for information regarding other available supportive services: Waterbury: 203-755-8745; Hartford: 860-727-9301; Middletown: 860-347-8060.

Counselors are also available to assist with information regarding budget counseling and assistance with handling bills and bill collectors.

In addition to the services provided by ULA, you can reach out to the United Way through 2-1-1 to be connected with other types of assistance. Please click here for their flyer and more information.

We will continue to put pressure on our elected officials to end this shutdown and bring our federal workers back to work with pay. In the meantime, we hope some of these services will help our federal workers during this particularly hard time.
