Connecticut AFL-CIO to Hold Twelfth Biennial Constitutional Convention at Union Casino

The Connecticut AFL-CIO, the umbrella federation of Connecticut unions, will hold its twelfth biennial constitutional convention at Foxwoods from Wednesday, October 4th through Friday, October 6th.

Over 300 delegates, selected by their local unions, will participate in the three day convention that directs the work of the state federation. Participants will learn about the threats to the labor movement that are coming from Congress, the Supreme Court, and even the state legislature.

There will also be a panel on “Why Political Action is Important,” which will consist of union member legislators talking about the importance of not only being involved in elections and at the legislature, but of having everyday working people running for office.

Major speakers will include NFLPA Executive Director DeMaurice Smith and United Steelworkers International Vice President Fred Redmond.

12:45 PM – Address of Connecticut AFL-CIO President Lori Pelletier
1:30 PM – Panel on Threats & Challenges to Labor Movement 

Thursday, October 5
10:30 AM – NFLPA Executive Director DeMaurice Smith
11:00 AM – Nominations for Executive Officers & Board
2:15 PM – Panel on Why Political Action is Important
3:30 PM – Election of Executive Officers & Board (if needed) 

Friday, October 6
9:45 AM – Rick Levy, President, Texas AFL-CIO
10:15 AM – Political Courage Award Presented to U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal
11:00 AM – Swearing in of newly elected Executive Officers & Board
